The best tropical smoothie without sugar that I have ever had is not hard to actually make at all. You can make this smoothie at home with very few ingredients that you can find in the aisles of your local grocery store or online.

I know the temptation of having a sweet treat is hard to avoid when we are trying to be healthy, but this smoothie will fulfill your sweet tooth, with using no added sugar at all!

This smoothie recipe is my tried and true go to recipe. I have been using it for the longest time, and it never fails. It is very satisfying, especially on a warm summer day.

It is very creamy and not watered down like some smoothies can be. There is a secret to getting this consistency which most smoothie makers do not do.

The secret to having a super creamy smoothie that is not watered down is to NOT make your smoothie with ice.

Ice is usually used to make smoothies and the problem is that eventually as the smoothie starts to melt down a bit, you get this watered down, separated texture.

Read on to learn more about how you can make it yourself.

Why Is This Sugar Free Tropical Smoothie The Best?

This smoothie is going to be your next go to recipe when you need something sweet and satisfying but do not want to blow all of your calories on something like a milkshake made with cream or a smoothie with tons of sugar and calories added.

Here are the main perks of this smoothie recipe:

  • This smoothie is super easy to make. You can make it in 5 minutes tops.
  • This smoothie is low calorie. It only contains 180 calories unlike some smoothies that contain upwards of 500 calories or more!
  • It only requires 4 ingredients which are usually on hand.
  • This smoothie is creamy and not watered down like some smoothies can be.
  • You can choose whatever fruit you want.

This smoothie is a great option for anyone who is looking for a low calorie sweet smoothie, but without all of the calories that come from added sugar.

The only sugar you are getting here is the sugar that is already inside of the fruit, nothing more.

Let’s move on to the ingredients that you will be using.

Sugar Free Tropical Smoothie Ingredients

The most important ingredient to talk about first is Stevia. I love Stevia in my desserts.

It does not give a strange bitter aftertaste like other artificial sweeteners do.

You do not need to use a lot at all. I usually start out with using a tablespoon in my smoothie, but you can start out by using less (a half tablespoon) or even less if you prefer.

no sugar alternative

The next important ingredients that make the bulk of this delicious smoothie without the sugar are your FROZEN fruit and Greek yogurt.

You can get the majority of types of fruit in frozen form, or if you prefer you can buy your own fruit as well, slice it into smaller chunks, and freeze to use for your smoothies.

The Greek yogurt is important in this recipe to make the smoothie creamy.

I start out small with this and you can use less than I do, if you prefer. I would not skip on this step because the Greek yogurt helps to maintain the creaminess of the smoothie.

I usually use frozen mangos or frozen pineapple but in this case I made my smoothie with frozen peaches, and it was DELICIOUS.

The last ingredient that you will need for your smoothie is almond milk.

I choose almond milk to use in my smoothie because it is one of the lowest calorie nut milks that I have found, it also adds a nice flavor, while saving on calories.

You can use any brand that you want to in your smoothie. Just make sure you do not skip out on the milk as your smoothie will be more watered down and not as creamy.

Of course, if you want an even creamier dreamier smoothie texture, you can use real cow’s milk. If you use this and are counting the calories thoroughly, make sure to account for the increased calories.

Sometimes it is nice to splurge a little.

Preparing Your Sugar Free Tropical Smoothie

The first step that I like to do is weigh my fruit on a food scale.

You can get a digital food scale on amazon for very cheap. This is where I purchased mine and it was a good price and has lasted me a very long time.

You want to measure out your fruit because it will be assured that your smoothie will be the same consistency every time you make it. Simply measure out enough for one cup, or 140 grams on the scale.

All you have to do next is put your one cup of almond milk into your blender. You can then put your half cup of Greek yogurt right in with the milk.

After this all you need to do is add in your stevia sweetener, and lastly the fruit you measured.

The next step? BLEND

Blend your smoothie until you hear no more frozen fruit being blended and it is a nice creamy consistency.

This takes usually only one minute. If you find your smoothie is not blending well for some reason, simply add in a tiny bit more almond milk and it will whip up quickly into this beautiful creamy texture.

Other Alternatives For Your Sugar Free Smoothie

I think this is the best smoothie recipe that I have ever tried, and it is calorie friendly and sugar free.

How could you lose on this one? Keep in mind, if you like other add ins or options in your smoothie, you could change it up however you like!

If you want to substitute another type of fruit, just make sure you freeze it first.

If you do not like artificial sweeteners, you can also consider using a fruit with some higher sugar content.

Pineapples and bananas are great fruits to use if you want to skip out on stevia as they create a sweeter smoothie, without adding any extra sugar.

If you would like, you can also add one scoop of protein powder to make a protein packed delicious smoothie, just make sure you account for the addition of calories.

When drinking this smoothie, you almost feel like you are cheating. It is so healthy but it tastes so good!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to use artificial sweeteners in my sugar free tropical smoothie?

You do not have to if you do not like them or they give you headaches. You can simply just use fruit and your smoothie may be sweet enough. This depends on what type of fruit you choose to add.

Should I add ice to my sugar free tropical smoothie?

You do not need to add ice. I do not recommend adding ice as it will water the smoothie down too much. As long as your fruit is frozen, ice is not needed.
