  • Low Calorie: With just 130 calories per serving, these danishes offer a guilt free treat that won’t sabotage your diet.

Plus, adding a crushed Biscoff cookie on top adds only 3 extra calories, bringing the total to 133 calories.

  • Biscoff Flavor without the Extra Calories: The inclusion of Biscoff Spread in the perfect amount allows you to savor the signature Biscoff flavor without packing on unnecessary calories.

It’s a win-win for your taste buds and your waistline.

Who says you can’t enjoy dessert while also being calorie conscious?

  • Easy and Quick to Make: Say goodbye to complicated baking processes. These danishes require minimal effort and time, so you can enjoy freshly baked pastries without spending hours in the kitchen.

They bake up in the oven in less than 20 minutes and you can enjoy them warm, so there is decreased waiting time.

  • No Dough Making: Thanks to the convenience of store bought puff pastry sheets, you can skip the arduous task of making dough from scratch.

This time saving hack allows you to focus on the delicious filling and flavors much faster.

  • No Mixer Required: You don’t need any fancy equipment for this recipe. A simple mixing bowl and spoon are sufficient to create the creamy and luscious filling.

If you don’t feel like lugging out the mixer and washing the attachments, you’ll love this one bowl recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Puff pastry sheets (I used Pepperidge Farm)

You can find these Pepperidge Farm Pastry sheets in most stores in the freezer section in the area by the frozen berries and cool whip.

If they do not have the same brand I used, any brand will do.

  • 1 ounce (2 tbsp) Neufchatel cheese

I use Neufchatel cheese in this recipe to give that hint of flavor and stability cream cheese provides but with less calories and less fat as well.

If you can’t find Neufchatel cheese, you could also use a reduced fat cream cheese.

  • 2 tbsp Biscoff Spread

You will find Biscoff spread in the same aisle as peanut butter.

It is a delicious spreadable butter made from Biscoff cookies that is seriously so so good.

Once you try it you will be hooked!

  • 1/4 cup non-fat Greek yogurt

Non-fat Greek yogurt adds stability and also some tang to this recipe. It is a great replacement for cream cheese for sure!

  • 2 tbsp artificial brown sugar sweetener (I used Truvia)

You will find this brown sugar version of artificial sweetener in most grocery stores in the sugar aisle.

I used Truvia because this is what my store had in stock, but I have also used the Swerve brand many times. Either will do.

  • 1 egg

Don’t skip on the egg! The egg is needed in this recipe to help the filling set in the oven and also make for a smooth and creamy end result.

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Cinnamon enhances Biscoff flavor, and I wouldn’t skip on it if you really want to bring out the delicious nutty flavor of the Biscoff.

  • Optional topping: 1 crushed Biscoff cookie

I crush one Biscoff cookie in a Ziploc bag very finely and sprinkle it directly on top of the filling before baking.

It only adds about 3 calories total per danish and is so worth it.

Of course this is optional. If you do not have the cookies, you can leave them off.

How To Make

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and let the puff pastry sheets thaw for 45 minutes to 1 hour until they become workable.

Start preparing the filling. In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature Neufchatel cheese and Biscoff Spread, mixing with a spoon until well combined. If the ingredients are at room temperature, they should easily blend together.

Add the Greek yogurt, Truvia sweetener, and cinnamon to the cheese mixture, and continue mixing until smooth and well combined.

Incorporate the egg into the mixture, stirring until it is completely blended and the filling is smooth.

Your batter is ready! It should look like the picture below when all incorporated, smooth, and ready to go.

Now it is time to prepare the pastry danish shells.

Unfold the pastry sheets and cut them into 3″ by 3″ squares. They don’t have to be perfectly shaped, as the rustic look adds to their charm.

Roll out the squares between parchment paper, stretching them slightly to increase their surface area. Alternatively, you can use your hands to gently stretch them. Remember, perfection is not necessary for these delightful danishes.

Place the pastry squares on a parchment lined baking sheet, ensuring they are about 2 inches apart. Fold in the corners by approximately 1/2 inch, and crimp up the sides to prevent the filling from leaking out.

Spoon 2 tablespoons of the prepared filling into the center of each pastry square, and if desired, sprinkle a crushed Biscoff cookie on top.

Avoid spreading out the filling. It will spread on its own.

Bake the danishes in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden, and the filling is set.

Depending on your oven, start checking at 15 minutes to make sure they are not burning.

Allow the danishes to cool for 15 minutes before enjoying. Alternatively, you can refrigerate them and savor them cold.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t Overfill: Ensure you distribute the filling evenly among the 12 danishes. Overfilling can lead to leakage and uneven baking.
  • Don’t Underbake: To achieve a deliciously crisp texture, avoid underbaking the danishes. Check for doneness at 15 minutes, but be mindful that ovens may vary so your danishes may take longer than this.
  • Don’t Overbake: Keep a close eye on the danishes after the 15 minute mark to prevent them from becoming overly browned or dry. Adjust the baking time accordingly.
  • Let Ingredients Reach Room Temperature: Allowing the Neufchatel cheese, Biscoff Spread, and Greek yogurt to come to room temperature makes it easier to achieve a smooth and well blended filling.
  • Use Parchment Paper for Rolling Out Puff Pastry: Utilizing parchment paper eliminates the need for adding extra flour while rolling out the puff pastry, keeping the recipe lower in calories and reducing cleanup.

Make Them Even Lower Calorie

  • Make 18 danishes instead of 12.

While each danish will have slightly less filling, reducing the number of servings decreases the calorie count by approximately 10 calories per danish, making the final calorie count 120 calories each.
